Wireless internet access available at NOAC 2015
NOAC 2015 guests and staff will have access to the MSU campus Guest WiFi system.
Coverage for this system varies from building to building. Most academic
buildings have strong wireless coverage around their classrooms. WiFi coverage
in most residence halls tends to be limited to only some common areas, with most
individual rooms in residence halls having no wireless coverage.
The guest wireless internet connection may become slow in a given area when a
large number of guests try to use it at the same time. While most Residence Hall
rooms have a hardwired network port, these are not generally available to NOAC
guests or staff.
Each lodge contingent will be able to designate one adult member of the
contingent as their internet adviser to be given access to the hardwired network
port in their residence hall room. Larger lodge contingents may designate
multiple Internet Advisers, one for every 50 contingent members. This adult must bring their own computer and
Ethernet cable with them to NOAC and will be given access details during the
orientation process. See the July Contingent Leader update for more information.
Staff members who need internet access to carry out their conference duties will
be given access to a NOAC staff wireless network that covers staff office areas,
or to hardwired network ports, as appropriate. Details will be provided to
committee leadership onsite.
Both guests and staff are not permitted to install their own wireless routers or
access points at MSU.
