NOAC’s Got Talent & Lip-Sync Battle
By Cy Roth
Arrowmen are able to express their talent in many ways at the 2018 National Order of the Arrow Conference. They can dance in American Indian competitions, engage in various STEM activities, or show off their eye for patch design. However, there are some individuals wishing to express their talent who do not have their own competition or training. Luckily, there’s NOAC’s Got Talent and the Lip-Sync Battle competition!
NOAC’s Got Talent is a very unique competition at the conference because there is no saying what is going to present itself. It is a fairly well-known fact that not everyone can sing. Fortunately, the Lip-Sync battle is a place where delegates can express their musical passion without needing to express musical talent. The breakdown of the competition is the exact same as NOAC’s Got Talent. There will be regional finals and an overall championship. The Lip-Sync judges have seen some interesting acts like Maroon 5 and Disney songs. Three delegates from Ohlone Lodge in California choreographed and performed Bye Bye Bye by NSYNC. Their group goes by “Cutter Road Otters” and have been practicing for weeks leading up to NOAC.
The judges report that they have seen a variety of talents including singing, beatboxing, magic, guitar, ukulele, kazoo, stand-up comedy, and even a delegate who can fit his entire hand in his mouth. Tuesday through Thursday, judges viewed several auditions of Scouts hoping to get in the spotlight. Those who passed the first round will showcase their talents at the Region Gatherings. Those who win in their region for NOAC’s Got Talent and the Lip Sync Battle will move onto the overall championship at Friday’s Wayfinder Festival. Who will be our most talented Arrowmen?
