Adventure and World Records Headed to NOAC 2012
Posted by National Promotions Team- January 16, 2012

Until now, you’ve heard a lot about all of the cool things that have happened at NOAC’s past: shows, kazoos, dodge ball, and a ton of other exciting activities. Well, we are now excited to tell you about all of the cool things that the section chiefs have been planning for this time around! NOAC gets bigger and better every conference, and 2012 is no different. Over the next few months, each of the committees will share more of their plans on the NOAC Blog at event.oa-bsa.org. But, until then, we thought you would like to know about a few of the new plans. In this issue, learn about scientific breakthrough with Outdoor Adventures, NESA@NOAC, and the world’s largest water gun fight.

The Outdoor Adventures committee, which brings awesome events like SCUBA, TOAP, and the Experience to NOAC, is expanding its repertoire this year. In addition to their usual adventurous activities, they will feature a science and engineering activity area. There will be a wide range of experiments to participate in, from launching projectiles to non-Newtonian fluids. The mini-seminars will run in the afternoons and will be led by experienced scientists and engineers, who will be able to answer any questions you may have. Be sure to check them out at Adventure Central!

NESA@NOAC is a new part of the planning committee. 2012 will be the 100th anniversary of the first Eagle Scout award. NESA@NOAC is an awesome collaboration between Arrowmen and the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA). This innovative committee will sponsor many Eagle-related events during the week. They are working with the Founder’s Day and HODAG teams help make those events truly remarkable. Additionally, an Eagle Scout dinner will be hosted Thursday night. Look for them around NOAC to get a discount on a life membership to NESA.

Finally, the Special Events committee is seeking to break another world record. Remember 2009, when we gathered over 4,000 Arrowmen to form the world’s largest kazoo band? Well, in 2012 we’re out for the largest water gun fight record. The current world record was set in April of 2011 at a festival in Thailand at a whopping 3477 participants. After our success with the kazoo band, we should be able to blow this one out of the water. So, bring your swim trunks and be ready to join the fight!

Now you know some of the awesome plans in store for you at NOAC 2012. Be sure to check out event.oa-bsa.org for more exciting events. “Attend” the NOAC 2012 Facebook event here.
