A National Order of the Arrow Conference could not function effectively without the dedicated service of those Arrowmen who work with the conference committees. These Arrowmen are referred to as "conference staff".

Members of the NOAC staff pay their own way to the conference, often traveling with their own council contingent. At the conference, they are housed with the conference staff and work in a support role to help make the national conference a successful and enjoyable event.

2009 NOAC Staff Application Process

  1. All youth and adult Arrowmen interested in serving on the 2009 NOAC Staff may apply on line at the NOAC Registration Portal on the Order of the Arrow Website: www.oa-bsa.org beginning October 15, 2008.

  2. Applicants will be asked to enter a detailed description of their qualifications in the conference area in which they have specific interest.  Signatures of the council Scout executive and lodge adviser are required, after printing the completed Staff Application from the OA Website.  The deadline for submitting a NOAC Support Staff Application to the national office for Lead Adviser and OA Director approval is March 31, 2009.

  3. Once an applicant’s paperwork is received in the national office, the appropriate lead adviser will review the qualifications and either approve or not approve the applicant.  If not approved by the lead adviser, the applicant will be placed in a staff pool for consideration by all conference lead advisers.

All applications approved by the lead adviser must receive final approval by the Director of the Order of the Arrow
and an e-mail will be sent notifying them of their status.

If approved, the lead adviser will specify an approved arrival date and a Notice of Staff Assignment/Registration Form will be sent to the applicant electronically, with instructions on how to obtain their notice of staff assignment.   By signing the form, the applicant acknowledges that they have read and will abide by the conference code of conduct and statement of understanding.  The Notice of Staff Assignment and conference fee of $395.00 are due by May 31, 2009 and should be mailed to the national OA office.  (Order of the Arrow, Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 152079, Irving, Texas 75015-2079.)  Your check should be made out to the Order of the Arrow, BSA.

  4. Those applicants not selected to serve on the conference staff will be electronically notified that a position was not available.  Those notifications will be sent after all staff positions are filled or by May 1, 2009, whichever occurs first.  Applicants will be able to check the status of their application and fee by going to the NOAC Registration Portal on the Order of the Arrow Website:  www.oa-bsa.org.

A specially designed 2009 NOAC promotion patch will be mailed to staff members when their conference fee is received in the national office.  Staff members are encouraged to wear the patch to help promote the conference.  A conference patch will also be sold at NOAC.
