Thank you for attending NOAC

Wow, what an exciting National Order of the Arrow Conference we all just attended. We hope you had an inspiring time at NOAC from participating in training, competing in afternoon activities, and enjoying the four exciting evening shows.

Below in this final edition of the NOAC News You Can Use, you will find some of the conference highlights and competition winners from the 2009 National OA Conference.

The 2010 National Scout Jamboree is less than one year away. The Order of the Arrow is now recruiting staff for each of its three OA programs: The OA Service Corps, the Mysterium Compass, and the OA Indian Village. Be sure to learn how you can sign up for these programs and be a part of the 100th anniversary of Scouting.

As we begin to prepare for the next National Order of the Arrow Conference, we would like your feedback from the 2009 NOAC. Click here and participate in a survey recapping your experience at NOAC (one participant will receive a special gift for completing the survey).

The Power of One is a powerful message which we spent the last week focused on at Indiana University. You have the ability to make the difference in the lives of fellow Scouts that you meet. Remember, the Power of One!

Yours in Service

THEPOWEROFONE: Keeping the Power Alive

Isn't it strange how a vivid experience can quickly turn into a recent memory?  NOAC is over and, by now, we've all returned home exhausted (but fulfilled) from the great experience we shared together at Indiana University.  We may be a bit travel weary from the long journey, but our hearts and minds are fresh with a new perspective on the power we each possess.  THEPOWEROFONE doesn't end with the conclusion of NOAC.  In fact, it only begins.

NOAC is a tool to inspire, create and motivate.  It’s a place where we generate ideas to take home to our lodges and councils and, most importantly, to our own lives.  The theme is more than just a tagline for NOAC2009, it’s a question for deep personal consideration.  It’s a challenge posed to each of us to change the world.  Isn’t it incredibly powerful when you consider that you can change the world?  Look around you – the possibilities are limitless.

As you return home, fellow Arrowmen will ask about your experience at NOAC.  Freely share your ideas and knowledge so they, too, can benefit from its powerful message.  Take the time to discuss the theme with your parents, friends, teachers, and coaches.  Allow THEPOWEROFONE to make its way into other aspects of your life outside of scouting.  Remember that all things of value in this world begin with just one person.

As you seek to find your own power, remember that you aren’t alone.  The rest of us (6,900, in fact) will be right alongside you, in our own parts of the country, in our own lives, striving toward the same purpose, along the same journey.  We are as ONE.  Whether our acts are ordinary or extraordinary, every little thing counts, and THEPOWEROFONE remains alive in each one of us…today and forever.

PowerTags:  I Exchanged Them - Now What?

powertagsSo, you collected at least ten PowerTags from new friends at NOAC?  You spent the proper time to discuss the theme?  Did you get anything out of it?  It’s not over….yet.

Don’t forget to log into www.NOACPower.org before September 1, enter the IDs of your new friends (on the back of the tags) into the site, and choose a cool gift.

You'll receive the email addresses of all your new friends, so you can keep in touch.  Not only that, you get to pick between a challenge coin and an arrowhead necklace.  The gift is on us, with the expectation that it serves as a reminder of THEPOWEROFONE, and your responsibility to deliver this message to your friends back home.  The power is everywhere, and you are a part of it.  Tag - you’re it!

While it is still a year away, it is already time to start finding your way at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree being held July 26 to August 4 at Fort A.P. Hill, Virgina.  The Order of the Arrow is providing three big opportunities to find your way at the 2010 National Jamboree: the OA Service Corps, the Indian Village, and the Mysterium Compass.

If you are interested in cheerful service as many Arrowmen are, the OA Service Corps will be perfect for you.  The OA Service Corps is a service oriented group of Arrowmen that work to serve the needs of the various Jamboree staffs, all with a smile on their face.  If you join the OA Service Corps, you will get to see a wide variety of Jamboree and will get to see more of Jamboree than you would as a regular participant.

Recognizing the American Indian’s heritage is a strong part of the Order of the Arrow's program.  The Indian Village will provide this program to all the scouts at Jamboree through American Indian dance, singing, and attiring.  If you appreciate the American Indian aspects of the Order of the Arrow, the Indian Village at Jamboree is the place for you.

Continuing the tradition of the Odyssey of the Law, Scoutopia, and 123, the Mysterium Compass will provide an interactive and inspiring place for all the scouts of the Jamboree to attend, while also taking a break from the heat of Jamboree in the Order of the Arrow’s air conditioned facility.

There are many places to find yourself at Jamboree, especially with the three programs that the Order of the Arrow will be sponsoring.  Make your plans now to find yourself at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree by going to http://event.oa-bsa.org and find more information on the Jamboree programs.
