Dancers and Singers Compete for HonorsDancers and Singers from across the nation traveled to NOAC, some for the exclusive purpose of competing in the Dancing and Singing team competitions hosted by the American Indian Activities Committee. The teams were evaluated by a seasoned panel of judges who all have years of experience in this area in order to be able to provide the participants the best feedback possible for their future development.
Singing teams were also, evaluated by an experienced panel of judges, all of whom have extensive knowledge of singing technique. The main difference between the singing and dancing competitions is that there are two classifications, Northern style, and Southern style of singing. To the untrained ear they sound incredibly similar, but a seasoned pro can tell the difference immediately, since the two styles have a different syntax, and the Northern style is sung in a higher pitch. The singers are very dedicated to their craft, and welcomed the critique of the judges after each group performed. Their desire to improve their craft, in order to honor those who came before them, is truly inspirational. |
