Ceremony Evaluations at NOAC

Ceremony being evaluatedOne of the goals of the National Order of the Arrow Conference is to help lodges improve their ceremonies. This is done by holding ceremonies training and through ceremony evaluation. Ceremonies are performed before expert evaluators, other teams and an audience of NOAC participants. This allows team members the opportunity to see other stylistic variations of the ceremonies. The evaluators provided constructive criticism to the ceremony team members, therefore raising the standard of the ceremonies.Gestures, clarity and rate, bearing, expressiveness, eye contact, and memorization.

Spectators make commentsEvaluators critique the ceremony on gestures, clarity and rate, bearing, expressiveness, eye contact and memorization. In addition to the comments made by the evaluators, other teams and spectators were encouraged to provide helpful hints and suggestions. After the ceremony, the teams are evaluated as Fair, Good, Excellent, or Outstanding. This is not a competition and the evaluations are meant only to provide helpful criticism to improve the ceremonies.

This year the number of ceremony teams participating in the evaluations have been outstanding. Forty teams participated on Sunday, ninty-eight on Monday, and sixty on Tuesday. This should contribute to improved ceremonies for many lodges across the country.
