Newsletter Competition Results

At Founder's Day this year the results of the Newsletter Competition were made public to the participants. The 65 newsletters submitted for judging this year have improved significantly over the last two years according to the judges who evaluated them.  Their quality made distinguishing the best newsletters more difficult than ever.  It is evident that more care is now being exercised in creating newsletters.

The Communications Committee would like to extend a congratulations to the following lodges for receiving National Honor Recognition:

The recognition categories for this year's judging were honor, merit, standard and participant.

Newsletter Evaluation Guidelines

The following is a short summary of guidelines for quality newsletters that was used during this year's judging.

• Newsletters are lodge histories so be consistent in dating all issues.

• A clean clear masthead is a must.

• Place upcoming events on the front page.

• Roster of key officers should be in the same place every issue.

• Newsletters need more humor, trivia, puzzles, quotes and other items of interest.

• Columnar format is desired for easy reading.

• Be careful with background graphics.  These can overpower the text.

• Registration forms for all upcoming events need to be included in the newsletter.

• All articles deserve a byline.  The majority of articles should be written by youth.
