Setting Up Founder's Day

Hundreds of booths, thousands of people, this can only be one thing....Founder's Day! To prepare for this event, people begin setting up their booths hours before and planning for this event begins years in advance. Founder's Day can best be describe as a festival celebrating the spirit of brotherhood, cheerfulness, and service.

At the National Conference there is one entire committee in charge of the this event. They began planning the event in December at the National Planning Meeting. The day begins with a parade and the day concludes with the Goodman Gala which includes fireworks and an ice cream social.

The day is filled with all kinds of festivities. Lodges from all over the country set up booths giving away food from Funnel Cakes to Red Beans and souvenir items from their state. Many Lodges use a hometown theme for their booth (as pictured below).

This year we'll be having a Best of the Best Competition, Goodman Games, Dutch Oven Cook-off, Goodman 500 (a pinewood derby car race), Who wants to be National Chief and NOAC 2002 Star Search.

Set up begins in the early morning. Lunch is being coordinated by the IU Dining Services - Menu - Hamburgers and Hot Dogs for 7,200 Arrowmen. Volunteer helpers sign up to assist with the event months ahead of time (it's called Cheerful Service).
