Q/A: Medical Exams

Q: The 2002 Lodge Contingent Leaders Guide states that medical exams must take place no more that twelve months prior to the start of the conference. But some members of my lodge say that physicals for those under age 40 are good for two years. Which is correct?

A: NOAC is a national event, and so uses a BSA Class-3 medical form. This form requires a medical exam within the preceding 12 months. This applies to everyone coming to NOAC, no matter what their age.

People may be confusing the NOAC requirements with that of a local Boy Scout summer camp. Most summer camps use a Class-2 medical from for individuals under age 40. The class-2 form only requires an exam every 36 months.

But NOAC needs a Class-3 medical form, and thus an exam within the past 12 months for everyone coming to the event.
