American Indian Activities introduces a new dance team competition
The fog rolls in at summer camp around the council fire. Cub Scouts and Webelos sit on the edge of their seats in anticipation of what will happen next. The northern drum fires up and out
of the shadows appear five grass dancers moving in a synchronize form to the sound of the
drum. Following that, a hoop dancer performs his acrobatic moves. After the show, the crowd
applauds what the lodge has done to represent the best of what the Order has to offer.
This new form of dance competition was created to meet the growing need to enhance dance
programs performed during Cub Scout crossovers, blue and gold banquets, district/council camporees and summer camp OA nights. Arrowmen will be provided constructive feedback on
their performance and recognized for their accomplishments.
Competition rules are simple and
were posted in April.
The long standing historical dance competition will not be affected by this new team dance
competition and only the winners of historical dance will be recognized as the national
champions.
